Buckingham Parish Church

What We Believe

We stand in the tradition of the Anglican Reformers of the 16th Century, affirming with them the great truths which were rediscovered at the time of the Reformation, such as the sovereignty of God in salvation, justification by faith alone, and salvation in Christ alone. Click here to see the 39 Articles of the Church of England.

All Christians from any denomination are warmly welcome at BPC. We unite under Christ and nothing else.

We don't like to be pigeon-holed or labelled, but if you had to label us you would need the following labels to hand:

  • Evangelical - because Jesus came to spread the Good New of the Kingdom of God - and we are to do likewise

  • Liberal - because Jesus had a heart for the lost and so social action and social transformation is a core part of our DNA

  • Conservative - because we believe in the Bible as being the Word of God

  • Orthodox - because we take the 39 Articles seriously and uphold orthodox teaching (for example in issues of human sexuality - see below)

  • Charismatic - because we yearn for more of the Spirit of God to empower us to do all God asks of us

Catholic - because we are part of the universal catholic Church

We are a church that adheres to mainstream biblical values shared by the overwhelming majority of evangelical Christian churches around the world. Believing the teachings of the Bible and loving all people—including those who have different perspectives—are not mutually exclusive. In fact this is the very definition of tolerance and inclusiveness.

We are committed to uphold a biblical understanding and teaching on marriage that is a life-long monogamous union between one man and one woman.

We understand that not all Christians hold to this position so there is a choice for anyone who is hurt or offended to be a part of a church that is on the Inclusive Church Register.

In order to exercise ministry leadership at BPC all leaders are expected to abide by the Lambeth 1998 Resolution on issues of human sexuality and our own guidelines here.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at BP Church for our Sunday Services starting at 9am, 11am or 6pm. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome lanyard.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits before the services begin. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

What about my kids?

Click here for our kids programme.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Getting Connected

Connect Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Connect Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Serving and Volunteering

If you want to get involved in the life of the church and help us make Sundays run smoothly, you can sign up to serve on a team.
