the baptism promises or vows

ABurtChristening-078
For an infant's baptism, parents and godparents make these vows on behalf of the infant. We pray that in time the child will want to be confirmed at which point he/she will make the same promises for themselves.

When an adult is baptised, they make these promises for themselves. There is no part to play for parents or godparents other than as witnesses and supporters.

If you cannot make these promises, we can help you along the way (for example, you could do an Alpha Course) or it may be better to have your child dedicated instead.

Q: Do you reject the devil and all rebellion against God?
A: I reject them.

Q: Do you renounce the deceit and corruption of evil?
A: I renounce them.

Q: Do you repent of the sins that separate us from God and neighbour?
A: I repent of them.

Q: Do you turn to Christ as Saviour?
A: I turn to Christ.

Q: Do you submit to Christ as Lord?
A: I submit to Christ.

Q: Do you come to Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life?
A: I come to Christ.
